An Unsung Hero…the Garbage Man

Two weeks into the quarantine...

And probably a few more to go.

There are things that we, as a culture, are learning to appreciate more.

And one of them, for me, is my garbage man.

Could you imagine if, for the last two weeks, all of our trash was rotting outside?

Could you imagine the smell, the rodents, the maggots…the mess?

And yet, in a world that is sending workers home left and right, my garbage man is working like nothing has changed. He’s in contact with an incredible amount of germs. He’s not staying home…he’s braving it to serve my neighborhood.

So this week, I’m going to wait for the garbage man to come by (I mean…what else is there to do).

And I’m going to tell him “thank you”.

And I’m going to ask my kids to join me in decorating our trashcan with some pictures so he can see just how much he’s appreciated!

If you want to join, here’s some coloring pages for the kids…feel free to print them out and talk to your kids about these unsung heroes.

UPDATE 3/31

Our family decorated the trash can this morning and when the garbage man got out and saw/read it, he was beaming! He took the poster we made for him and put it in the dashboard of his truck!
